Day 5: Taronga Zoo, final

Taronga Zoo was probably the nicest zoo I have ever visited, and I've been to some great zoos. The combination of peerless setting and execution with a collection of animals found nowhere else made the difference. This zoo is heavily involved in conservation efforts for the unusual Down Under fauna so, while it shows the tigers and elephants you'll find elsewhere, it has a lot more exotic birds than normal — not to mention the marsupials and other exotica. And, most certainly, it houses the largest and most ferocious koala anywhere, as the photographic evidence attests!

As was becoming habitual, we caught the public ferry and chased the approaching darkness back to Sydney's Circular Quay. There were still hardy souls climbing Harbour Bridge — bet we had a more enjoyable day! We met L's colleagues for dinner that night at a flight attendant–recommended diner that lived up to its billing, although I took no photos. My superb seafood pie lives on in memory.
